This article contains my top 10 favorite items for kids.
Whenever inspiration strikes and is accompanied by a bit of energy, Jamie and I have been getting to work on decluttering “kid stuff” right and left. It’s kind of disheartening when I see cute baby or toddler items that the girls rarely used or liked, but baby gear and toddler/preschool toys are always a gamble. Every kiddo has unique needs and interests, so inevitably things are going to be hit or miss.
For example, I ended up with five (!) options for Sadie to sleep in when she was a newborn. Obviously we had her crib all set up, but we also had a swing, a bassinet attachment on a Pack-N-Play, a Rock-N-Play, and a co-sleeper bed that rested right next to me in bed. (And in case you’re wondering, she was sleeping on her belly in her crib by nine weeks old because she flat-out despised every other option. Oy. A firecracker from the get-go!)
Top 10 Favorite Items for Kids
There are 10 items though that we believe rank at the tip top of their categories. Take it for what it’s worth, but we could sing the praises of these items all the live-long day! As aforementioned, every family has different ideas of what they view as exceptional, handy, or just plain fun, but I whole-heartedly put a big stamp of personal approval behind each of these products.
The BOB
I did an extensive review of our stroller fleet in the past, and I still stand behind my opinion that there is no stroller better than the BOB.
It’s easy to fold, perfect for every kind of terrain, smooth and light to push, has good storage space, great attachment options, and lasts forever. If you can only buy one stroller, buy the BOB. One of my biggest regrets is not biting the bullet and spending $500ish on a double BOB. I couldn’t justify the money on a new one, and finding a used one was impossible. In hindsight, we would have used it more than enough to justify the cost. Wrangling kids in public places can be challenging enough, so having an effortless stroller option that the kids are comfortable in and that you’re comfortable pushing is worth it.
360 cup
We’ve tried every sippy cup under the sun, and the 360 cup is the crowd favorite. It doesn’t leak easily, it’s a cinch to disassemble and wash, and it promotes drinking from a regular cup down the road.
Pottery Barn Kids sleeping bags
I know it may seem crazy to get little kids $80 sleeping bags, but these things will last until they’re probably adults, haha! They’re big enough that I can lay it in, be completely zipped up, and totally comfortable. We travel with them, watching movies in them, and just generally adore how cute they are. They’re machine washable, so durable, and the softest sleeping bags you’ve ever felt. all of the ones that are currently available, and almost all are on mega sale!
Native shoes
(!!) in the history of kids shoes. I wrote a whole post about how much we love them here!
Elsa Boombox
Out of hundreds of toys the girls have had or played with the last few years, this toy is THE toy. They never get sick of this (ever, unfortunately haha) and have played with it every single day since Hadley got it seven months ago. I don’t get it. Definitely takes first place for favorite toy they’ve ever owned.
Little People toys
Right behind the Elsa toy is anything associated with Little People. When in doubt, gift a toddler a Little People toy. We have so many of them – the princess castle, , , animal barn, , in addition to the little pack of individual people. Both of my girls are big Little People fans, and from talking to my girlfriends, it sounds like the majority of kids feel the same way!
Sterilite boxes
I shared a blog post several months ago about how we store a good chunk of the girls’ toys in these Sterilite boxes I ordered from Amazon. I’ve tried three different kinds of similar, clear, shoebox-sized boxes, and are fantastic. They snap securely, but both girls are able to open them to play with the toys inside. They aren’t easily broken and are generally super durable for what we need them for. Highly recommend for storing smaller groups of toys.
Wet Brush
Before discovering the Wet Brush, I had to use detangler on Hadley’s hair every night. With the , detangler isn’t necessary. I use it too! We all love it.
Trampoline
Just so much FUN!! I was asking my mom yesterday what she guessed that I’d include in this post, and she immediately guessed . She knows how much we’ve all enjoyed it.
One Stop Bow Shop
These bows from this Texas-based company are wonderful. The alligator clips stay so well in the girls’ hair. In fact, I think we’ve only lost one (out of about 20 of them) in two years. None of them have broken, unraveled, or frayed. A few have even gotten washed in the washing machine on accident, and they stay perfectly shaped! I think they’re so feminine and versatile, and I love that there’s so many sizes and colors to choose from.
Let’s chat!
Those are my top 10 favorite items for kids! What items do your children have that you rave about to other parents? If you have kids older than mine, I’d love to hear about what I should keep an eye out for!
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
