I have a hunch that this past weekend is one that we’ll be reminiscing about for decades. It was so short but so sweet and just what the doctor ordered for all of us.
On Friday afternoon, we dropped the girls off at my parent’s home and then drove about an hour away to Wilson Lake. My best friend Ashley’s aunt has the most stunning, welcoming home right on the water and offered to let her bring our close group of high school friends + our husbands (and three infants) for a couple days of fun.
We all celebrated our 30th birthdays semi-recently, so this weekend was our way of celebrating a new decade with friends who have been around for 20+ years.
Ashley was so adorable and made sure we celebrated properly with a cake, balloons, and champagne on our first night.
Once we arrived at the lake house, we never left the lake house. Three cheers! We texted earlier in the week and debated getting dressed up and going out Saturday night, but it was a pretty unanimous decision that we’d rather put on comfy clothes after a day spent in the sun and just enjoy a chill night in. #thisis30
Ashley’s parents and aunt and uncle worked so selflessly all weekend making sure their menus were carried out at each meal, which included some good grilling Friday night and a fish fry Saturday night.
We were also so fortunate that the weather cooperated so well, which really added to the r&r that everybody felt.
Jamie has gotten really into fishing lately, so he and the guys enjoyed hours and hours of hanging on the docks together fishing. At one point he called up to me on the deck and shouted “Hey, in case you’re wondering, on a 10 out of 10 relaxation scale, I’m at a 10.”
He is the cutest. Made me so happy because he’s been working his tail off lately, at work, with the Reserves, and at home.
Amberlee (far left) and Lauren (third from left) put together goody bags for everyone, which included these cute, comfortable cover-ups. So fun!
The longer we are married and the deeper we get into parenting, the more I really love the rare times where we can not only be together sans kids, but actually just have fun together. One of my favorite parts of the weekend was taking out the jet ski and riding for a while together, laughing our heads off.
I don’t know why it made me so happy to see Jamie down on the dock with the rest of the guys, but I knew he was so happy and enjoying himself so much. I really adore the guys my friends married. Everybody did well. 😉
Before we cleaned up for the fish fry, a few of us got a wild hair to jump off the top deck of the dock (there’s a door that opens that’s intended for jumpers.) I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie, so once I jumped the first time, I just couldn’t stop!
On Friday night, we didn’t go to bed until way after midnight, but on Saturday night, we all wondered if somebody had sprayed the house with sleepy dust. Everybody was toast! We did the best we could to power through and enjoy each other for a few more hours, but by 10, we were lights out.
Going to bed was a good call though because half of us had to be up and at ’em early for various reasons. As we were saying our goodbyes on the driveway, we were cracking up that it was only 7 a.m. and we were all dressed with full faces of make up, hair done, and rolling out! I guess this really is 30. 🙂 Responsibilities and real life calls!
We had a fun little project to work on that we had to be ready by 9 a.m. for, and I’m excited to tell you more about that in a few days.
Though we always joked (but somewhat seriously talked about) Napa Valley being a good destination to celebrate our 30th birthdays with our husbands, Wilson Lake one hour away turned out to be just as fun. 😉
Right now we are all in such different seasons of life. Several have newborns, several more will probably have more babies in the next couple years, some are done having kids, some are still fairly newlyweds, yadda yadda yadda. So this type of trip was perfect, and who knows… maybe life will be quiet enough at 40 to do a bigger trip. Honestly, this one will be hard to beat.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
