Shouting TGIF from the rooftops over here! We have a fun weekend on tap and Jamie and I are ready, ready, ready. I think Jamie has said “I am so ready for this weekend” at least 10 times the last few days. This week has been a bit of a doozy due to some significant unexpected trials for a few family members, which has weighed heavily on us. Everything is going to be okay, but whenever difficult things come out of nowhere, it initially takes a good bit out of everyone. Such is life I suppose!
Onward! I shared a bit of life here and there the last few weeks such as my father-in-law’s surprise 60th birthday party, the girls’ first week of school, and so on, but here’s a few other slices of our lives lately.
Eating breakfast on the back patio is always a treat. If everyone wakes up in a good mood and we’re able to slowly ease into the day, we’ll enjoy a slower breakfast out on the back patio. The mornings are starting to get a bit cooler (low to mid 60s), which is a good reminder that fall will be here before we know it and to soak up these warm temperatures while we can before they’re gone. Smoothies are hit or miss around here, and by that, I mean that if Hadley likes them, Sadie likes them. If Hadley turns her nose up to hers, Sadie will too. They are sisters through and through.
The girls visited the dentist for the first time here in Alabama and had a fab visit! Hadley had been numerous times in Kansas, but this was Sadie’s first visit overall. Rapunzel was playing on a TV in the ceiling, so Sadie was as happy as could be. Jamie and I both loathe the dentist, so our fingers are crossed that our kids will be better than us and keep up this excitement to keep going back. 😉
We love our little street so much. So many families with young kids, which is what Jamie and I wanted so, so badly. On Saturday night, my neighbor texted me to run down and hang for a little bit if we wanted, and then it turned into five families from one little area all hanging while the kids ran wild. We are super grateful and just plain excited to watch all these babes grow up together.
Hadley is going to Pre-K five days a week, and she is rocking it! She’s adjusted super well and loves school. Her big box of Stitch Fix Kids clothes has come in handy too. She and Sadie have both been wearing them like crazy!
And in hair news, Sadie is finally growing enough length for her first pony tail…
… and Hadley’s is getting thick enough to do lots of fun hairstyles with. Her formerly-tender head is toughening up, so we’ve been having some fun each morning experimenting with new hairstyles.
Jamie’s parents were here in Alabama for a bit with us, and the girls had so much fun! We hope to see them back here again just as soon as we can. <3
When I go to the early morning OTF classes, I like getting home to a quiet, dark house with kids who are still sleeping so that Jamie and I can get ready for the day and actually talk in peace and quiet before the tornado of kids wakes up. Yesterday I got home and noticed Jamie, Sadie, and Teddy hanging out front at 6:10. Oy. Never the best start to the day when Sadie Rose is up way before she should be, but we try to laugh about it and soak up the extra snuggles with her before big sis is awake.
You know you’re more obsessed with your kid than you have ever been with any thing or person before in your life when you stare at her t-ball picture over and over and over again with all the heart eyes. She makes us feel like the luckiest.
Yesterday we powered through nap time to run some errands before the weekend, and I treated the girls to a carousel ride at the outdoor shopping center because I was in a good mood and so were they. 🙂 I love where we live and how this stuff is right around the corner.
Sadie had been asking to go on the tea cup for weeks, and oh that smile just slays me.
But it just seems necessary to end this “Slice of Life” with a dose of reality. Whew, parenting is so exhausting both mentally and physically. Sometimes I want to be so selfish and just relax. Lay on the couch. Eat a meal in peace without a battle of some kind. Actually listen to what they said on TV. Not serve all day long. Just typing out these words sounds horrible. HORRIBLE. But maybe you are nodding your head because you get me.
Yesterday we had at-home tantrums over things that didn’t make a lick of sense (in true two-year-old fashion), and though I have a few tools in my toolbox for how to handle them, it’s still just tough most days. I know that all of this is as much a part of this parenting gig as are the moments that make my heart burst with love 10 times a day, but sometimes the days just crawl and I don’t want to discipline so much. I know one day (soon), Sadie will become a bit more reasonable as she connects the dots about consequences and how we do things, but in the meantime, pour me a glass of wine because I have one very smart, very unreasonable, very funny, but very strong-willed baby girl on my hands.
Let’s chat!
Which age did you think was harder? Terrible twos or the “three-nager”?
Do your kids love the dentist too?!
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
