Hello, hello! How was your weekend? Ours was a steady combination of relaxing (Friday evening), crazy busy (Saturday), and productive (Sunday), so I’d say ours was a-okay. We traveled to Atlanta (just under a four hour drive each way) the last two weekends, so it felt good to hang around town this weekend.
I have a “Slice of Life” on tap today if you’d like a teeny glimpse into a few of our recent happenings. 🙂
Like most kids, our girls will never turn their noses up to ice cream, so swinging through the Dairy Queen drive-thru as an occasional surprise treat is thrilling for them. Our routine lately is to get them a mini blizzard to split (mint chocolate chip ice cream is their jam right now!!), and then get home and put it into two bowls. They get enough to eat 10ish bites that fill their bellies without spoiling an upcoming meal or putting them on a sugar rush. Plus, it costs like $3. WIN.
It was Hadley’s turn to be Star of the Week in preschool last week, which kept us busy! It was so fun for her though and made her feel special. It was also Dr. Seuss week with daily dress-up themes to keep in mind, so every day felt like a scramble of making sure we had everything in order for Star of the Week + Dr. Seuss.
Her favorite thing was helping me pick out pictures to print for her poster that hung on the classroom door all week. This was us putting it together, a.k.a. me supervising/helping a little while she glued, taped, placed, etc. because I wanted this to be her thing!
Even with my parents five miles down the road, Jamie and I are still kind of the worst when it comes to being intentional about date nights. We tend to be such homebodies in the evenings that we rarely make plans by ourselves to get out just for the heck of it. We want to do better though because we always have such a good time when we get away for a few hours to do something fun.
We ate dinner and played arcade games at Pints and Pixels in downtown Huntsville a couple of weekends ago and highly recommend it for a super affordable but fun date night.
I mentioned in a recent post that Jamie’s dear uncle passed away, so we traveled last weekend to Atlanta for the services. We had been there the weekend prior to visit our friends the Clarks, so it was a treat to see and stay with them again despite the sad family circumstances. Our girls are so obsessed with visiting them because they have the cutest twin boys + this chicken house that they find thrilling!
This is one of the most unattractive pictures of me ever, but #reallifeat430am. I was off to the gym and snapped this picture on my way out the door as I realized that maybe I finally looked obviously pregnant, and not just in that “is she, isn’t she pregnant?” stage that always seems to last forever.
My bestie Jessica sent me some to borrow, and I’m obsessed with the tanks! Throughout the last week or so I’ve been wearing them with a new pair of Zella maternity pants and feel very comfortable and covered. You guys know that Zella pants are the absolute only pants I wear to workout when not pregnant, so when someone told me that they had , I went crazy! I hated to pay the $60ish for one pair, but I know I’ll be wearing them constantly and more than get my money’s worth.
Hadley’s favorite day of Dr. Seuss week was hands down Whacky Tacky day. Once I explained the concept to her of basically dressing ridiculous, she ran with it from her backwards shirt, to crazy mismatched bows, and mismatched shoes. I love watching her get bigger and take ownership of this kind of thing!
And on the same day as Whacky Tacky day, she had dance pictures. If you know Hadley, you know that she is a girly girl through and through, so this is her jam. She takes my breath away! I really (!!) dig having a five year old. Everyone told me that five is awesome, and it is. I can’t think of one thing about this age that doesn’t rock. I’ve heard more hairy years are around the corner, so I’ll enjoy her sweetness every second I can. 😉
Hadley is all dolled up and Mommy… is not. 😉 But we kinda match!
Have I ever mentioned my favorite cleaning tool in the whole wide world on the blog before? I don’t know how I deep cleaned my house before I picked up this on a whim one day! It’s basically like an electric toothbrush, and we use it to clean little crevices around our faucets, the deep ring on our kitchen table, grout, and other tough areas where grime tends to get pushed to and settle.
I typically spray all-purpose cleaner around the area and then let this baby work its magic! Order one pronto and then laugh as you go around your house on a hunt for small areas that this tool can tackle!
And last but not least, here is a picture of our baby’s 21 week ultrasound we had on Friday. She was super awake and wiggling all over the place, and Jamie and I couldn’t get enough. The only ultrasound we’ve ever sat and “watched” together was Sadie’s when she was around 8ish week along, so this was really neat for Jamie (and for me to watch him beam!)
I was a little more anxious about this appointment this time around because I know this is where they scrutinize as much as they can about the baby, so hearing the tech check off part after part, organ after organ, and seeing those beautiful four chambers of her heart flickering away was something we didn’t take lightly. It’s just mind-blowing how completely formed her exterior is, and how nearly formed her insides are too!
I look at my big girls and remember that they too started as little growing babes on ultrasounds just like this girl, so it’s been really exciting lately to think about all that this little one will add to our family. It’s becoming much more real to me that I’m going to love this girl as much as I love Hadley and Sadie, which feels impossible, but I know without a shadow of a doubt that it’s true because I already do love her so much. I dream about the moment they’ll lay her on my chest in the hospital and see her face for the first time. Those moments with H and S were the two single best moments of my entire life. I just can’t wait to do it again one more time before we close down baby town.
Let’s chat!
Are you an extrovert and love being on the go hopping from activity to activity on the weekends, or are you more introverted and crave time at home to relax and recharge?
If you and your spouse are good at making dates a routine thing, what does this realistically look like for you? What kind of dates do you go on?
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
