How to Cut a Pineapple: 5 Quick and Easy Steps

I don’t want to insult anyone’s intelligence here, but if you’ve never cut up a fresh pineapple, I’d love to show you a quick and easy way to do it!

Jamie and I took a Costa Rican cooking class during our honeymoon years ago, and one thing the chef showed up was an incredibly easy way to cut up a pineapple. I’ve been using her technique ever since!

Let’s get to it! You’ll be saying goodbye to those overpriced grocery store pre-cut pineapple containers in no time. For roughly $2 and five minutes of your time, you’ll have a big container of fruit that your family will be munching on for days!

How to cut a pineapple

Step One: Twist off the “hair”/top of the pineapple and throw away.

This method was taught by a Costa Rican chef and taught during a cooking class. This tutorial will list all steps, tips, and pictures. Enjoy! WhimsicalSeptember.com

Step Two: Lay pineapple horizontally on a cutting board and slice off both ends.

To keep things as clean as possible, throw away scraps as you go. I like to keep the trashcan nearby and swipe scraps in as we go!

Step three: Stand pineapple up and begin to cut vertically, shaving off the outer layer of the pineapple.

Your goal is to keep as much meat on the pineapple as possible while still shaving off the “eyes” as seen below.

{After my first initial slice, I still have many “eyes” remaining. After cutting around the whole pineapple, I will go back and quickly shave these off. Easy!}

Your pineapple should look something like this after shaving all the way around and cutting off the eyes.

Step four: Keep pineapple upright and cut four slices vertically around the core.

Below is a grid to show where and how you will cut. You will throw the core away as seen in the next few photos.

Let’s chat!

What produce do you prefer to buy pre-cut instead of cut yourself?

Do you have a different method for slicing and dicing a pineapple?

Psst: Here’s a link to our honeymoon from 2012 to Los Altos de Eros boutique resort in Costa Rica. Such a dream vacation!

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
