Slice of Life – 3/31/16

Two and a half weeks from now we’ll have a baby in our arms! Ahh this life is crazy. I just can’t wait to hear her cry and see her face. Waiting to see Jamie for the first time in 6.5 months and waiting to meet my littlest daughter all at the same time is killer. Sheer torture, I tell ya.

90% of me is hoping and praying that these next 16ish days fly by quickly, but there’s also a small part of me that wants to savor every bit of the “calm” that is our lives right now. I know things are as simple now as they’re going to be for a long time.

Today’s “Slice of Life” is short because, like I said, things are very quiet and calm right now. 🙂

Hadley started back up with preschool last week! One of the biggest reasons I hesitated coming to Alabama for a couple months was because I didn’t want to pull Hadley out of her preschool class in Kansas, but one of my best friend’s moms is the director of a top-notch preschool here in town and was able to get her into a class until the end of the year! Talk about thrilled! Her teachers were so incredibly welcoming and Hadley has adjusted great. With all the change going on in her life right now with her daddy in and out, new baby coming, staying at Grandma and Grandpa’s, etc. I am just so glad that she’ll have her own time twice a week to learn and play with other kids like she’s used to.

I adore this picture of Hadley and my grandmother. If you know my grandmother, you know she’s a bit of a spitfire, but Hadley softens her up so much and the two of them do nothing but laugh together. As soon as I took this picture I looked at it and thought about how special it will be to look back on down the road.

My mom and I wanted to get much-needed pedicures last week, and because Hadley loves getting her toes painted, we brought her along for her first one! We found a salon that had kid chairs, and she loved it. She couldn’t seem to keep her feet still to let them dry (I hate that part too, Had!), but otherwise she did awesome.

Sharing maternity clothes with friends is the best thing ever. I let my friend Jessica borrow most of my maternity clothes when she was pregnant last year, and then last fall she gave them all back to me plus a bunch of her maternity clothes! It’s been so helpful to have extra pieces to chose from instead of breaking the bank on clothes I really don’t want to buy a second time around. I wore this shirt (one from Jessica) for the first time on Saturday and had to send her this pic to say thanks!

My mom got a new KitchenAid mixer a few weeks ago (her first one!), and I’m a bit obsessed! I’ve never asked for one myself because I didn’t see why it would be any more convenient than my regular hand mixer, but it’s everything it’s cracked up to be. I used it most recently to mix up these Strawberry Pineapple White Chocolate cake balls. So yummy! I definitely know what’s going at the top of my Christmas list this year. 🙂

My springtime allergies are absolutely kicking my butt, but it’s hard to stay inside when the weather is so gorgeous out. This little breezeway area separates my grandmother’s apartment from my parent’s house, and it’s where a lot of conversations, meals, and laughs happen. I was sitting out there on Tuesday with my grandma, mom, and Hadley laughing over dinner, and I couldn’t help but get up to snap this candid shot of a happy time.

Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

PS: Big big big thanks to so many of you who have signed up for my weekly newsletter! Yay! The first one goes out tomorrow morning!

Erica

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
