My Parent’s Long-Weekend Visit

Hey there! I hope you had a nice first weekend of Fall! We happily welcomed some cooler temperatures yesterday after a solid storm all afternoon/night on Saturday, and it feels so nice to melt into the couch and do a little bit of blogging with the windows open.

As I mentioned in my post last week, we got to entertain my parents this weekend and had such a great visit. They haven’t both had a chance to come up to Kansas to visit together since July 2015 due to work schedules and other commitments, so I really loved having them both here at the same time. Of course the girls did as well!

Hadley hadn’t seen my dad since mid-May, but they didn’t miss a beat. She had him wearing dress-up jewelry and playing with her dollhouse within 15 minutes of pulling in the driveway.

We enjoyed slow mornings spent on the back deck while the weather was cool. I roared when I found this picture on my dad’s phone! I love that diva in the pjs. 😉

Hadley went to school on Thursday but was excited when the whole family (minus Jamie) picked her up and went straight for ice cream. Local readers, we love the Call Hall Dairy Bar on K State’s campus. My dad picked up some steaks there to grill that night, and we welcomed some downtime the rest of the day.

My dad loves (loves loves LOVES) to explore new places, so I decided to take him on a sunrise run at the Konza Prairie about 20 minutes away, somewhere he’d never been. We pulled up at 6:40, jogged almost a mile gradually uphill, and then sat and watched the most beautiful sunrise at 7:15.

He did a nice job kicking my butt on the steepest hills and took a pretty superb selfie to prove it. 😉

After watching the sunrise we jogged a couple more beautiful miles before heading home to the girls. I was on such a high the rest of the day and joked with him that life would feel perfect if I had the chance to start my day that way with those views every morning.

We added to our collection of baby gear, and Sadie is quite the fan. We have the perfect little spot for it between our kitchen and sunroom, and I’m happy to have another option to plop her in when I need to work around that area.

On Friday we strolled the mall for a bit while Jamie was at work, and of course Hadley added another six figurines to her collection of 100+. She’s going on a year of full-blown obsession with little figures like this, and Jamie or I is bound to break an ankle or leg or something one of these days tripping over them all over the house.

On Saturday we did some morning exploring and took a short drive over to Tuttle Creek State Park. We checked out the beach area we’d heard so much apart, but I was a little nervous to see how Hadley would behave around water. Not surprisingly, she wasn’t scared a bit (not sure how to feel about that). Hopefully after we get the girl some swimming lessons we can add this to our list of places to frequent as a family next summer. 🙂

Dad took Jamie to play a round of frisbee golf (Dad’s old sport/pasttime) while we took the girls to the park.

I snuck away that afternoon for a couple hours to do a freezer meal class with my MOPS girls, but the rest of the family spent the day eating pizza, watching football, and playing/relaxing. My kinda day!

They hit the road after breakfast Sunday, and then Jamie and I decided to skip church to nurse the colds that both girls are fighting. I put in an online Hyvee grocery delivery order on Saturday after learning that it’s free if you spend $100+, and sure enough, all of our groceries were delivered right to our front door Sunday afternoon. GLORIOUS.

As far as this upcoming week goes, we’re gearing up for our next round of company on Thursday! Jamie’s parents and grandmother will be arriving for Jamie’s Friday ceremony, and Hadley is just going to be in Heaven getting to spend another long-weekend with her grandparents. We can’t wait to introduce Sadie to her great-grandmother!

Thanks for popping in today, friends! Have a great Monday.

Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
