We didn’t want a dog, really. At least not right now.
Jamie and I have talked about getting me a dog once Jamie deploys to keep me company since I’ll be living by myself in Clarksville while Jamie is gone. I’ve been playing on petfinder.com for about a week and figured if I found one that I absolutely fell in love with over the internet, I’d go check him/her out. Until I found “that dog”, I’d just have fun looking.
Well, after one visit “for fun” to Pet Depot for Madison Animal Rescue Foundation’s adoption day we had found the dog that was made just for us. Just for the record, I never thought I’d be so sappy about a dog, but he’s just perfect!
We took him out of his crate and he immediately wanted to sit in my lap and lay on my chest. As soon as Jamie sat down, he left me and did the same to him. Our hearts just melted. We learned that Teddy was three years old, perfectly healthy, and had been up for adoption for a year. All I kept asking was “Why has no one adopted him? There’s got to be something wrong with the dog.” But there’s not. We like to think he was just waiting for us to come along. 🙂 After walking him around the store and loving on him for about 30 minutes, we had out the moolah and were ready to buy a leash, bowl, and food. Jamie and I were both giddy like five year olds as we took our new baby home.
He’ll go with Jamie to Clarksville until he leaves, come back with me to Madison (my parents are fabulous and LOVE him), and then we’ll go back to Clarksville for good in June.
If you are interested in adopting an animal, check out the Madison Animal Rescue Foundation. We paid $150 for him, which included all of his shots, neutering, etc. A lot of their animals aren’t puppies anymore, which is awesome! I always thought I’d get a puppy, but puppies come with their own issues. Teddy is completely house broken, doesn’t chew on anything, rarely barks, etc. He’s calm when he wants to love and be loved, and he likes to play in the yard just as much.
Enjoy a few more pictures of our new babe!
I admit that he’s not the most photogenic little man, but I promise he is absolutely precious in person! He has a face to kill. 🙂 Did I mention that he’s half chihuaha, half pug? If not, there you go. 🙂
Side note – We are dressed up for the West Point Founder’s Day dinner in Birmingham. Post on that coming up next.
Hi! I’m Erica, and I absolutely adore sharing my life on this website with you! I come here almost daily to blab about all of the things related to being a regular wife and mother in today’s ever-evolving society. I share about our new home, what’s on our kitchen table, what we’re hanging in our closets, where we’re traveling to next, my crazy 5 a.m. work outs, how I make time for girlfriends, our faith, and much more. We always have a lot of balls in the air and somewhat thrive on the chaos. I believe in the power of story-telling as a form of inspiration and entertainment, so I’m here to do both! I was born and raised in north Alabama and recently re-planted roots here again after my husband transitioned out of the Army (he is now in the Reserve and it’s going so well!) I’m a super proud mom to three little girls (ages 7, 4, and 1) who seem to be the stars of the show around here (for good reason – they’re pretty great!) I’m so glad you found me and are here reading! I hope we can get to know each other here on the blog as well as Facebook and/or Instagram. xoxo
